Bingo, Social Committee, Drop In Centre, Annual Celebrations, Special Events
Participants have an opportunity to acquire leadership, organization, and communication skills through set up, take down and running events throughout the year. They receive an honorarium as they learn to navigate large and small events as well as implementing formalized meetings and reporting.
Purpose:
In a safe and supportive atmosphere, participants are reminded of work life balance, the need for fun and the work that is associated with an event.Objective:
To support individuals while they create and organize an event from beginning to end.Outcome:
Participants take pride in ownership of activities occurring at the Drop In Centre.Bingo
Participants are responsible for set up, prize organization, calling games and recording winners and players. They decide what games will be played, and when breaks are required. Bingo is played twice per week and continues to be a popular event. There are prizes for every game: microwave popcorn, soup noodles, gum, pencils, notepads, granola bars, chips, pop continue to be popular prizes. The prizes may be small, but the camaraderie brings everyone together in a social setting.
Social Committee
Our Participants follow a formal agenda to help determine, and organize social, and special events at the Nest Drop-In centre. This peer ran group is responsible for organizing recreation activities throughout the year, these may include walks in the park, boating and fishing at the lake, or enjoying local entertainment in the community or throughout the province.
Annual Celebrations Include
Valentine’s Day-always includes our annual Chili contest, Halloween, Christmas, and an Easter Egg hunt. Birthday’s are celebrated monthly throughout the year.. Our other special events may include sports, games, fishing excursions, mini golf, bowling, boat rides, picnics at local lakes, corn maze visits and special sporting events.
Drop In Centre
Known as the Nest, to those who attend. The drop-in centre is located on the main floor of the branch. It is designed to be a safe place for people to gather as they journey to recovery. We have up to 60 people attending daily with over 9600 visits a year.
Activities at the Drop In Centre
We currently offer:
- The Affordable Meal Plan daily
- Education Programs twice/ week
- Bingo twice/week
- A place where participants can enjoy games of pool, cards, board games, as well as play video games with staff and other participants
- Find a chair to relax and read a book
Special Events
These may include professional sporting events such as Curling, local Championship events, Prince Albert Raiders Hockey games, Saskatchewan Roughrider’s games and or Saskatchewan Rush games.
Pet Therapy
Another favorite component of the Drop In Centre is our Pet Therapy, We have three permanent live in cats (Phil, Peaches, and Min-Min), and the occasional visit of therapy dogs with professional handlers.
